Abstract

Corrugated steel pipe is widely used in underground structures because of its advantages like higher structural strength, facilitate easier transportation and installation, boast extended service life, possess robust bending resistance, and demonstrate the capability to accommodate engineering issues like foundation deformation and uneven settlement. However, such structures are susceptible to buckling during service, but buckling on square-arched corrugated steel pipe is urgently lacking.This paper focuses on the buckling problem of square-arched corrugated steel pipe under uniform axial pressure, summarizes the calculation method for buckling ultimate load of corrugated steel pipe in traditional design specifications, and calculate the buckling mode and ultimate buckling load of two types of corrugated steel pipes with different cross-sections using finite element method, verification of the safety and reliability of the buckling limit load formula calculation methods in different design codes. The buckling modes, buckling limit load, Load and Pressure Factor (LPF), buckling stress and buckling displacement of the two types of corrugated steel pipes calculated by the arc length method uesd to analyze the buckling response of the structure with different sections. Analyze the buckling resistance of square-arched corrugated steel pipe, and provide the basis of section comparison for related projects. The results demonstrate that 1. the calculation method of buckling limit load of corrugated steel pipe in the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is safer and more realistic than others, 2. The increase of corrugated steel pipe wall thickness can effectively improve its resistance to buckling capacity, 3. Round corrugated steel pipe is recommended when the pipe wall thickness is thin, and square-arched corrugated steel pipe is recommended when the pipe wall thickness is thicker.
