Open Science and Access

Open Science: Making science available for free access to publications, research data, laboratory notes and other research processes, and allowing for the reuse, distribution and production of research, in a way that other researchers can work together and contribute.

Gold Open Access: Researchers provide open access to their works published in academic journals through the published journal and from the moment of publication.

Green Open Access: Researchers have open access to open archives of the results published in academic journals and accepted for publication.

Institutional Open Archives and Subject Archives: Systems that collect, organize and archive publications, data and other intellectual products (theses, course recordings, papers, etc.) produced from scientific research conducted by public sources on a long-term basis.

Contribution of Raw Data Library to Science within the Scope of Open Science and Access

Scientific research produces multiple outputs. However, published studies typically present and discuss only a subset of these outputs, and often do not include raw data files. In published studies, processed data are often presented as summarized tables or graphs. This format makes it difficult for other researchers to reuse the data and models.

Moreover, many of the outputs mentioned in the articles (e.g. graphs) cannot be presented due to page limitations. It may not be possible to present survey data or provide graphs of all results. The RDL platform has been established to ensure that the raw data and models from studies are easily discoverable and accessible, while also providing academic incentives for researchers.

Raw Data Library highly supports open access science and RDL presents the raw data for that processed data given in articles. In addition, RDL particularly provides data that are mentioned but not given in such publications. At this point, the Raw Data Library has an important place in terms of sharing researchers' raw data.

The Raw Data Library supports open access. Researchers also manage the availability of their raw data files on the platform to fund their further studies. At this point, RDL offers mandatory open access for master's and doctoral dissertations conducted at all institutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Gold and Green Open Access?

Gold Open Access provides immediate free access through the published journal, while Green Open Access allows researchers to archive their work in open repositories after publication.

Does Raw Data Library charge publication fees?

No, Raw Data Library operates under a diamond open access model with no article processing charges (APCs) for authors and no access fees for readers.

How does RDL support open science?

RDL provides free access to raw data and research outputs that are often not included in traditional publications, supporting reproducibility and collaboration in scientific research.
