Get Free AccessThis review focuses on seed-mediated growth of Ag nanocrystals with defferent morphologies by using Ag nanocubes as the seeds. We specifically discuss how the growth habit of Ag cubic seeds can be controlled to maneuver the shape evolution of Ag nanocrystals during a seed-mediated synthesis. By controlling the reaction parameters, such as the ratio of Ag precursor to the seed, the capping agent, the reductant, and the foreign ions, we have successfully prepared a series of Ag nanocrystals with controlled sizes and shapes. The products include cubes, cuboctahedrons, octahedrons, octapods, trisoctahedrons, concave cuboctahedrons, and concave octahedrons. In addition to the synthetic protocols, we also provides a brief account of the mechanism responsible for the formation of each type of Ag nanocrystals.
